About COACH RICK
Rick first discovered his passion for strength & conditioning during his deployment overseas with his infantry unit, the 82nd Airborne, to Iraq in 2006-2007. After his service, he completed a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawaii in Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science and opened CrossFit Kona.
He then moved to pursue a Master’s degree in Sports Science and Performance. His coaching experience includes taking UMass Lowell into Division 1, working at West Point Military Academy, and directing a youth sports performance gym that emphasized the use of timing gates and jump mats to train kids. He has coached many Olympic weightlifting athletes to state records and podium finishes through Oahu Barbell Club and Beantown Barbell Club.
Rick has competed at the USA Weightlifting (USAW) University Nationals. He is a sailing instructor and heads U.S. Patriot Sailing: Team Seattle.
He is returning to coaching after some time in the corporate world working as a Sports Scientist. He recently opened his own sports performance business, RJM Performance Lab, and is excited to help athletes reach their strength and performance goals.
